The Challenge
Independent journalists often rely on clunky WordPress setups or generic tools like Notion. Neither provides a structured editorial workflow.
The Workflow
This system implements a strict state machine:
- Draft: The writer works on the piece.
- In Review: An editor checks for factual errors and typos.
- Scheduled: The piece is queued for publication at a specific date and time.
- Published: Live on the frontend.
Implementation
The backend is powered by an Express API and MongoDB. The frontend is a custom React dashboard with role-based access control (RBAC), ensuring writers cannot publish their own articles without editorial approval.
